Where Is Xur Today? (Jan. 7-11) – Destiny 2 Xur Location And Exotics Guide

Posted on

We’re in a new year of Destiny 2 with the Witch Queen expansion right around the corner. But there’s still plenty to be done, including Seasonal Challenges, the Realmwalker seal, and Moments of Triumph, not to mention the new Dares of Eternity activity. So while a new expansion is coming, you should still hit up Exotic vendor Xur when he arrives in the solar system to fill out your collection of Exotics and grab some new Legendary weapons and armor. Here’s where you can find Xur this week and everything he’s offering.

Head to the Tower, to the Hangar area, to find Xur this week. For his weapon, Xur is offering the Fighting Lion grenade launcher. Hunters can pick up the Shinobu’s Vow gauntlets; for Titans, there’s the Synthoceps gauntlets; and for Warlocks, Xur has the Ophidian Aspect gauntlets.

Now Playing: Destiny 2 Where is Xur January 7th, 2022

Xur’s Ophidian Aspect is definitely one you should grab–it sports a stat roll of 66, which is above average for the vendor, with high Intellect and Resilience.

In the Legendary weapons department, there’s not much to be excited about. Xur’s offerings are pretty middling. The best gun on offer is the Interference IV grenade launcher, which features Spike Grenades and Full Court for maximizing its damage output, plus Field Prep for fast reloads and a Velocity masterwork. Snag this for a good, reliable boss damage-dealer–this is about as good as this launcher is going to get. If you’d like a decent sidearm, Xur offers the Seventh Seraph SI-2 with Full-Auto, Dragonfly, and a Range masterwork. His version of the Seventh Seraph CQC-12 shotgun isn’t bad either, with high Range to go with Slideshot, Vorpal Weapon, and Handling for its masterwork. But neither is especially exciting, nor are the rest of his guns unless you’re really hurting for something.

Much better, however, are the options for Legendary armor. Xur offers the Future War Cult’s Simulator set from the Season of the Worthy. Hunters and Titans can really make out here. For Hunters, there’s a chest plate with a total stat roll of 64 you should nab, plus a few other items that drop at 61 or 62–enough to make yourself almost a complete set of armor at decent stats. For Titans, you’ll likely want to pick up the helmet and chest armor at 63 to shore up your loadout as well. Warlocks have slimmer pickings, unfortunately; most everything is worth ignoring, save for a helmet at 63.

Xur Location

Find Xur at the north end of the Hangar, on a small catwalk near the area's edge.

From the Courtyard transmat zone, make your way left. Follow the stairs down until you reach the Hangar area and turn left again to go to the north side of the space. Xur is up a small flight of stairs, waiting near a railing at the area’s edge.

Xur is present every weekend in Destiny 2, starting with the daily reset at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET each Friday. His exact location is always a mystery when he first arrives, as he is not listed on the map, and for novice players, he can be easy to miss. However, there are a set number of locations where he takes up residence, including the Tower Hangar area, on Nessus in Watcher’s Grave, and in the Winding Cove area of the EDZ.

Xur Exotic Items

Xur offers Fighting Lion this week, a quintessential breech-loading grenade launcher every Destiny 2 player should spend some time getting comfortable with. The Kinetic launcher will teach you how to get good at bouncing grenades around corners and timing their detonations, and it can rip through enemies in PvE and PvP if you get good at landing direct hits. If you’re not a fan of his other options, Xur also sells an Exotic engram that will decrypt into an Exotic you don’t already own. Just note that you can only buy one per week, and the engram is specific to the character class who buys it–so if you’re trying to get a new Titan helmet, don’t buy the engram with your Warlock. He also has the new Xenology Quest, which rewards an Exotic Cipher you can use to purchase Exotics from either Xur or the Tower’s Monument to Lost Lights. The quest requires you to either complete Strikes or win matches in Gambit and the Crucible.

  • Exotic Engram – 97 legendary shards
  • Fighting Lion – 29 legendary shards
  • Shinobu’s Vow – 23 legendary shards
  • Synthoceps – 23 legendary shards
  • Ophidian Aspect – 23 legendary shards
  • Xenology quest – free
  • Legendary weapons and armor – 50 legendary shards, 1,000 Glimmer

Alongside changes in his location, Xur’s inventory also rotates weekly. That means it’s worth visiting him each time to check out his new weapons and rolls on Exotic and Legendary armor. You can visit him any time between his arrival Friday and the weekly reset at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET the following Tuesday when Xur departs the solar system.

Fighting Lion (Grenade Launcher)

Fighting Lion is powerful and deadly, but takes some skill to use.
Fighting Lion is powerful and deadly, but takes some skill to use.

If you want to get good with breech-loading grenade launchers, use Fighting Lion. The gun trains you how to best utilize this sort of weapon, which allows you to remotely detonate its grenades once you fire them by releasing the trigger. Fighting Lion grenades bounce, and the launcher reloads faster when you actually deal damage with its grenades. If you can land direct hits, you get increased damage to enemy shields, so this is great for firing at tough enemies in a crowd or, once you hone your skills, at Guardians in the Crucible. Missing shots is punishing thanks to a slow reload, but once you start to get the hang of Fighting Lion, it can be devastating.

Shinobu’s Vow (Hunter)

Amp up your Skip grenades with Shinobu's Vow--they're pretty effective in the Crucible.
Amp up your Skip grenades with Shinobu’s Vow–they’re pretty effective in the Crucible.

You might have noticed that Hunters have been using Skip grenades quite a bit in the Crucible this season. They’re already pretty effective at tracking down and eliminating enemy players–with Shinobu’s Vow, the grenades become even better. The Exotic improves the Skip grenades overall, making them track better and longer, and gives you a second grenade charge. You also get grenade energy back when you damage enemies with them, allowing you to gain you grenades even more quickly. Team with weapons that use Demolitionist or Adrenaline Junkie for maximum effect.

Land your melee strikes from further away and get more melee and Super damage with Synthoceps.

Titans who love to punch their way through enemies should give Synthoceps a try. The Exotic gauntlets extend your melee lunge range so you can make your strikes from further away, which is especially useful in the Crucible. You also get additional melee and Super damage when you’re surrounded while wearing the Exotic, incentivizing you to wade straight into the fray and punch through the crowd.

Ophidian Aspect (Warlock)

If your build doesn't call for a different Exotic, Ophidian Aspect is a good fallback for Warlocks in any situation.
If your build doesn’t call for a different Exotic, Ophidian Aspect is a good fallback for Warlocks in any situation.

Ophidian Aspect is a solid “general bonuses” Exotic to fill the gap when you don’t have something else that fits your loadout. The gauntlets significantly boost both your reload and ready speeds, keeping you in the fight as much as possible–which is great for the Crucible, you also get an extension to your melee range with the Exotic. Xur has a pretty great roll on Ophidian Aspect this week, so add this one to your rotation.
